risky

Describe a risk you took that you do not regret.

You’re crazy, they said!

You’re just kids!

You should wait – at least until after college!

You two fight all the time, you’re never gonna make it!

And, it’s true. The odds seemed stacked against us! I was 19, and it was her 19th birthday when I proposed. We said we’d wait until the next year, and then we moved the date back – as in backwards – getting married the same year we became engaged. And no…it wasn’t a “shotgun wedding”, either.

We didn’t know one another until college, either. But in a real sense, we grew up together. And even as young as we were, we each brought a fair amount of individual history (baggage) into the marriage that it’s taken a lifetime to work through. Honestly, that’s still in process! While we still have some of the same features and characteristics, we’re not the same people we were back then. And, that’s a good thing!

Sure, it was risky. And I’d like to say I have no regrets for the 30+ years we’ve been married. I can’t claim that. But getting married to my amazing wife – even as early as we did – is something I do not – nor will I ever regret!
