What sacrifices have you made in life?
People who make sacrifices don’t usually want to talk about them, unless they’re rather self-promoting (possibly narcissistic). This makes me think of Brian Regan’s Me Monster skit. And while it’s not about sacrifices, I think it applies.
Okay, change my mind. Are there positive reasons to talk about self sacrifice?
Well, I sacrificed not to always want to be right and completely understood that I can’t move around on earth with my own understanding but to move with a power higher than my own and decided to read the Bible because I was taught that it’s the only place that anyone can ever find peace.

I think so. For instance, if you want to teach someone that sacrifices are worth it and part of life. “I once sacrificed my popularity to do the right thing” or “I sacrificed losing my old friends to get sober.” Whatever the case might be. I don’t find it narcissistic.

Okay. Point taken. That would not be narcissistic. You’re right. My experience is that oftentimes, those kind of lessons tend to be “caught” rather than “taught”.

True! Teach by example. And your kids are grown, right? So you probably know better about that than I do 😊

Yes, “big kids” (like me) and small ones tend to learn more by example, I think 😏

“I was a warthog”. hahahaha Thanks for the laugh on that one. Narcissists are everywhere – and I don’t think the phenomenon is necessarily due to a lousy childhood unless you count the constant programming for me me me on the television. But the pendulum swings, doesn’t it?
I don’t like to talk about what I have sacrificed for the same reason you stated. But as Lovely Panda Mom said, teaching is an exception, and I try to lead by example. It’s okay to do without something for the betterment of someone else.

PS I snorted when I laughed at that skit. I have a girlfriend who also snorts if it is a good laugh. We try to make each other laugh so hard we snort. It’s like a contest. LOL

Sacrifice is just life, right? I mean, whenever someone makes a decision, there’s a sacrifice… big or small. It’s not narcissistic to know that, I think, but it is to lament every decision made. That’s my humble opinion anyway.

I thought a lot about the word “choices” too. We make choices, and sometimes they might be considered “sacrificial” – because we give something up. But then, we often have to give in order to receive. It’s like you said, that *is* just life.

If you’re truly doing things that would be considered self sacrifice there is no reason to discuss it
